Closing of the 15th Francophone Film Festival in Vietnam at the Haitian Embassy: A Resounding Success and a Celebration of Haitian Culture

The 15th Francophone Film Festival in Vietnam ended on a memorable note at the Haitian Embassy in Vietnam, bringing together cinema enthusiasts, diplomats, and lovers of Francophone culture. This festival, now an unmissable event on the Vietnamese cultural scene, allowed for the celebration of the richness and diversity of Francophone cinema through screenings from various countries.

Other embassies, such as those of Canada, Switzerland, Morocco, and many others, had the opportunity to showcase their films at the National Cinema Center, offering the audience an immersion into varied works that addressed current and profound themes. This initiative allowed Vietnamese spectators to discover a wide range of films, highlighting realities and stories from across the Francophone world.

The closing ceremony was marked by the screening of the Haitian film Freda, an acclaimed feature that captivated the audience with its emotional power and authentic representation of contemporary Haitian society. The film was an excellent way to close this festival full of emotions and cinematic discoveries.

Attendees also had the opportunity to sample traditional Haitian cuisine. Typical dishes such as griot, tasso, and plantains delighted the taste buds, offering a complete immersion into Haitian culture beyond cinema.

Mr. Dorval, Chargé d’Affaires at the Haitian Embassy, took the opportunity to present the famous Haitian rum Barbancourt, a true national pride. This moment of conviviality allowed guests to taste an iconic Haitian drink while enjoying a warm and relaxed atmosphere.

During the evening, a plaque of honor was awarded to the prominent Vietnamese designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam, in recognition of his constant commitment to promoting Haiti through his creations and activities. The designer, who makes Haiti’s name shine through his works, was praised for his hard work and passion for Haitian culture.

This closing was not only a resounding success but also marked the Haitian Embassy’s commitment to promoting Haitian culture and cinema on an international scale, while strengthening ties between Vietnam and other Francophone nations. The festival, therefore, served as an opportunity to build bridges between cultures and celebrate art in all its forms.
